Art Direction, Brand and Graphic Design
I was given the project to create a pink themed 'Ikigai' magazine to celebrate pink day and to expose the idealism behind Ikigai. The brief of the project is to create a very visual and artistic design that helps to explain what Ikigai is. The term 'Ikigai' originates from the Heian period in Japan, 'Gai' meaning shell which was deemed as valuable so from there the term Ikigai derived as a word that means the 'value of life'.
I used a mixture of abstract shapes, illustrations and photographs to create this magazine and flowed the theme throughout each page. I was highly inspired by the Flamingo bird for it's pink colour so used this as the main symbol for Ikigai and combined the style of Japanese art and vector art together.
